Ground Hog HodgePodge

Thanks to Joyce at From This Side of the Pond for the questions. This is her 450 set of questions for us to answer. I tried to go back and find my first Hodgepodge post to see how many I have answered but I finally gave up. I've been answering the questions and linking up for definitely a few years.

 1. The Wednesday Hodgepodge landing on Groundhog's Day sounds about right. Besides the Hodgepodge what else lands on your calendar just once a week? Is it as much fun as the Hodgepodge-ha!? I look forward to the Hodgepodge every week. I know this sounds silly but when folks comment, I feel like I'm sitting around drinking coffee and chatting with y'all. (I don't drink coffee but I could serve it to you!) I have several meetings that fall at the same time each week and they roll around week after week.

2. The Winter Olympics begin on Friday, surrounded by much controversy. Will you be watching? Why or why not? Have you ever been to China? I've never been to China but I would like to visit there some day. We usually watch the Olympics but I don't even know if we have a channel where we can watch them since we got rid of cable.

3. Something in your life lately that has felt a bit like an 'olympic event'? I'm not doing the caregiving but I feel like my husband and his siblings are doing an olympic event helping to take care of their sweet mom.

4. Do you like fondue? Sweet or savory? Restaurant only or do you own your own fondue set? I haven't eaten fondue in a long long time. My mother-in-law had a fondue pot and I remember borrowing it one time when we were newlyweds. That may be the last time I ate fondue. Actually, I think we went to a wedding where they had a chocolate fountain and strawberries, etc. I guess that is fondue even though it is a fountain???

5. Give us five short (2-3 word) phrases to sum up your January.

    1. cold (for Alabama)

    2. somewhat hectic

    3. lots of work

    4.  did I mention cold?

    5. back to school

6. Insert your own random thought here. I am blown away by the things I'm learning in my sociology class. I've bored everyone around me to death telling them about what I'm reading, watching, and learning. I'm really glad I didn't take this class when I was a young college student. I know I mentioned this before but I feel like my mind is exploding at times. Thoughts on different cultures and different norms are in every conversation I hear and in every book I'm reading for pleasure, etc. People - we are interesting!

  1. You are a busy gal, but wouldn't it be fun to spend some time with all our Hodgepodge friends? We could even pull out some fondue pots to go with our coffee/tea/etc.

    1. I could definitely bake some treats to go along with those fondue pots!

  2. I was thinking the same ... wondering if a chocolate fountain counts as fondue. Probably not but it's always fun!

Oh yes, caregiving definitely feels like an olympic event. I've been there twice, and my hubby and siblings are currently there with his mom. Thankfully there are 7 of them, and their mom is still able to be in her own home.

    1. My husband has three other siblings and a sweet cousin has been taking a turn every week, too. We have a sitter during most days and she is now staying 2 nights a week. Mark's mom is still in her home, too. She is 96!

  4. I enjoyed your comments. And come to think of it, I'm not sure we have a channel to watch it on either because we got rid of cable too. lol

    1. We haven't really missed cable. Have you? During the last election, I gave up watching the news so I've enjoyed streaming. We also hate commercials and love watching with no commercials.

  5. I know some people who never go back and read comments ... but I'm not one of them! Yes, we're just like a giant coffee klatch!

  6. If you have a smart TV, you can download Peacock for free and they are carrying the Olympics. Your class sounds great and I'm glad you are enjoying it so much!! The Hodgepodge is always fun! xo

    1. I need to check out Peacock! Does it have commercials? I'm assuming it does since it is free?

    1. Certainly! Joyce at From This Side of the Pond blog writes the questions every week. She has the questions on her blog on Tuesdays. We copy and paste and answer on our own blogs and on Wednesdays, we link up at her blog. I've never actually "met" any of the folks who link up, but I'm disappointed if we don't connect in the comments each week. Her link is http://www.fromthissideofthepond.com/. We would love for you to jump in with us!!

  8. Never a dull moment when living with people! :) Elder care is a marathon for sure and hats off to all the family members that embrace that and persevere through it. Now for that sit down with some coffee and conversation! :)

    1. Yes, please! I truly love commenting on everyone's blog each week and I look so forward to reading comments on mine. I stayed with my mother-in-law on 3 different nights and I love her so much but I told my husband that I just can't say plus work 40+ hours a week. He is semi-retired and he is always so tired after he stays each week.

    1. You are the second person to mention Peacock. I need to check it out! Have a great week!

  10. I loved your answer to #1. I feel the same way. Though sometimes my replies have to be quick, more like I ran into you at the store...lol. I do try to take more time. When my family in Florida mentions how cold they are I just chuckle. I live in Washington.

I always enjoyed the sociology classes I took. It would be interesting to see how different they are now compared to when I was in school (1987/88ish)

  11. My last college class was in 1984 and college classes are VERY different now. This one is all online, which is great. We watch Ted Talks and other youtube videos as part of the curriculum. I took my first exam today and it was online and it was timed so you couldn't cheat PLUS you were able to find out your grade immediately.
