Thank you to Joyce for the questions! Answer on your own
blog and connect with us or answer in the comments below!
1. It's often said we should be grateful for small
blessings. What is one small blessing you are feeling especially
grateful for today? On Tuesday I did the devotion for our staff chapel (I work
in a church) and it was about gratitude. Being grateful is on my mind! I'm
thankful for the sound of the clothes dryer running in the background. I know
that is random but I'm going with it!
2. How do you feel about leftovers, not just on Thanksgiving
but after any meal? Favorite thing to make/eat using your Thanksgiving
leftovers? I meal prep on Sunday afternoons for my lunches so I guess those are
leftovers . . .we definitely eat leftovers at our house. My husband would eat
them far longer than I . . .I throw them out much quicker than he would. I love
the dressing (some of you may call it stuffing - this is Alabama and it is
dressing) on Thanksgiving and it is even better left over!! I love making soups
with the leftover turkey!
3. Sherwin Williams unveiled it's 2022
Color of the Year-Evergreen Fog. Are you a fan? Would I find this mid-tone
gray green shade anywhere in your house? Does your house need painting? Inside
or out? What one space is most in need of a paint job? Are you a
do-it-yourselfer or do you hire a professional? Lots of questions in this one
question! I'm not fond of colors with lots of gray. Gray makes me feel gray. I
just looked up Evergreen Fog and it is very gray on my screen. If I visited you
and your house was painted this color, I would love it - seriously. I just
couldn't live in it day after day. We've had the outside painted in the last
year or so. Outside is good. We've continually touched up the inside but last
week I told Mark that some of it needs repainting. We've done some of our own
painting but it sure is nice to hire a professional - if you can find a good
one who is reasonably priced.
4. What is one aspect of the way you were parented
that you are grateful for today? I typed out an answer to this question and
then reread the question and my answer would have been totally incorrect! My
mom died when I was a sophomore in high school and my dad died when I was 25.
I'm having a hard time remembering how I was parented. We had to help around
the house - I remember my sister and I standing at the sink washing and drying
dishes. My mom was active in church and she took us to church and I'm glad she
did that. I wish they were alive so I could ask them how they parented us!!
5. Write an acrostic for the word-thankful (update: I misread . . .and used Thanksgiving!!) - let me be
honest. I am a horrible acrostic writer. I read other ones and think "why
couldn't I come up with that!"
Thankful . . .and
I am thankful for
Home - a home far
better than I ever dreamed I would have (and Hodgepodge!!)
A day to be together
with loved ones
Neighbors who are
great
Knowledge - isn't
it wonderful that we can keep learning no matter our age?
Smiles
Good food and God's grace
Icing - though I
don't eat it anymore . . .Icing is good!
Victory in Jesus -
really that was what popped into my head -- also, Vaccines
- yes! I got my booster last week.
Ideas, Icemakers, Imaginations,
and Ibuprofin - I imagine I'll need
some of all of those
Nachos, Navel Oranges – good grief – what else begins
with N? (this may be my worst one)
Grey Goose - shhh! I may really need this on
Thursday night.
6. Insert your own random thought here. I would love to
hear about Thanksgiving menus – what does your family eat on Thanksgiving? Do
you eat lunch or dinner? I think there will be 12 adults and 2 children around
our table. I think I’ll add the card table to the end of our large dining table.
Our menu as of this moment is:
Turkey and dressing and gravy
Honeybaked Ham
Green bean casserole
Sweet potato casserole
Asian Slaw
Relish tray – pickles, olives, pickled okra
Canned cranberry sauce – whole berry plus the other one (I
don’t eat it but the rest of the family prefers the canned??)
Pumpkin pie
Pecan pie
Another dessert made by a friend who will be joining us
Something else (not sure what yet) made by another couple
joining us – I’m thinking a green vegetable? And rolls? Any other ideas?
Acrostics are not my thing either, but you did well. I should have also put the sound of my clothes dryer as we went a week without being able to use ours. Another story. Our Thanksgiving menu consists of the following: We take Cornbread Dressing, Dirty Rice (cajun), Sweet Potato Casserole, & Pink Salad. Yes, we are transplanted Louisiana folks. Others provide Green Bean Casserole, turkey, ham, roles, cranberry sauce, and pies. Always delicious!
ReplyDeleteNo dryer is no fun! I don't really have a place for a clothes line. I hang my work dresses and shirts to dry on the door to our shower :-). I remember my mom hanging sheets and towels on a clothesline in the backyard. Cajun dirty rice sounds great as a Thanksgiving side! What is pink salad? I need to look that up!
DeleteGreat post! Lol, the clothes dryer! That's as random as my programmable thermostat. Your acrostic is great, I'll admit I had a tough time with mine too. I'd love to hear more about Asian Slaw, it sounds like something we would like. Our menu will be boneless turkey breast (there's just two of us), mashed potatoes with gravy, stuffing, corn, cranberry jelly (the canned one!), rolls, and since we're not really pie-eaters, we'll be having apple and blackberry crumble for dessert. Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteWhen I read your comment about the programmable thermostat I thought the same thing - as random as my clothes dryer!! Here is a link (at bottom of comment) to my blog with the recipe for the slaw. The original recipe was called Oriental slaw but I call it Asian Slaw now. My husband would love the apple and blackberry crumble. One of his favorite desserts is blackberry cobbler!

Is your something else needed for your menu a martini? I saw the Grey Goose in your acrostic lol. I love that you said the dryer. When we traveled around some of the very busiest cities in the world in Asia I would see clothes hanging out to dry amidst all the smog and soot. So thankful for a washer and dryer in my own home! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
ReplyDeleteWhen we were in Ireland, clothes were hanging outside. Folks had a line from one side of their tiny porch to the other. One of the couples on our trip had been to Ireland when their children were teenagers and the son was staying on for longer. They took his clothes to the laundromat and washed them but there were no dryers. They took them back to the hotel and hung them all over the room . . .and they didn’t dry! He had to wear damp clothes. I think I’ll make a Moscow Mule (fake one – diet gingerale, grey goose, twist of lime or lemon). I think I might need it!
DeleteFor sure, in the south it is dressing! And good acrostic! I just didn't have it in me today.
ReplyDeleteYay for dressing!
DeleteLOVE your acrostic, Lisa! I wanted to join in, but at the 11th hour the Powers That Be decided to let Tom come home. Right now, I'm mighty thankful for our own clothes dryer that miraculously came back to life -- like Lazarus! Publix is preparing our turkey, dressing and mashed potatoes -- but I, too, want to add a green veggie to the mix, something keto-friendly.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that Tom got to come home!! Publix should do a good job for you!
DeleteYou lost your parents young. I'm so sorry. I just lost my dad in July and my mom passed away almost 18 years ago and it's weird not having parents. Your TG menu sounds yummy and I enjoyed your acrostic.
ReplyDeleteYes, I have been without parents far longer than I knew either of them. Please accept my sympathy on the recent death of your dad! It is indeed weird not having parents.
DeleteCracking up about g is for grey goose! Sorry you lost your parents so young. Things keep popping up that I'd love to ask mine about. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
ReplyDeleteJust keeping it real over here with the Grey Goose hahahaha!
DeleteI enjoyed your Hodgepodge! The acrostic is so well done! Love your menu. Deviled eggs. I would add deviled eggs! xo
ReplyDeletedeviled eggs do sound good! We always had them at our family thanksgiving. Thanks for reminding me!
DeleteHi, I hopped in from another blog. Getting back into blogging after a long break. We have pretty similar menus for the holiday except my daughter always requests a chocolate creme pie. Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a child, my mother always made a chocolate cream pie that I loved! Good choice from your daughter!!
