Scary Hodgepodge!

It is Wednesday so it must be time for Hodgepodge! Thank you to Joyce at From This Side of the Pond. She writes the questions every week and we answer!

1. What's something that scares you?

I'm not particularly fond of spiders and snakes. This was at the school where our daughter teaches - meet Mr. Copperhead! Look closely …against the building!! Mr. Copperhead is no more.

2. Do you care where the food you eat comes from? To what degree?

So I'm beginning my answer with another question. Do you mean "come from" as in Fair Trade? Or as in "Do I buy groceries at the Dollar Tree"? I would love to eat food items that aren't covered in pesticide. I would prefer to eat food items that were grow locally and would prefer that no child labor was involved. Do I make extra effort to search out those items and pay the upcharge? Rarely. Do I feel good (mentally) when I do? Yes.

If you mean do I buy my food at Dollar Tree? The answer to that would be rarely . . .and it would be things like a bag of popcorn.

If you mean, location - as in where something was grown . . .We don't buy Tilapia at all. Hubby is a big fisherman and he doesn't trust the water where most Tilapia is caught. We did eat it in Israel. It is a native fish there! We also don't buy shrimp from Thailand.

A lot of fruits and veggies are grown in Alabama and I do love Alabama strawberries, Alabama (Chilton County) peaches, and Sand Mountain tomatoes.

I have a feeling that my answer went way deeper than was intended :-).

3. What's something you wish you'd spent more time doing when you were younger? I wish I had finished college when I was younger. I know I sound like a broken record. I'm just saying that BIO102 at 65 is tough.

4. Let's play autumn this or that....pumpkin spice or apple cider? Corn maze or haunted house? Horror film or Hallmark movie? Blanket or sweatshirt? Watch football or watch the World Series? Foilage-red, yellow or orange?

I do love pumpkin spice but have you tried Pound Dropper Apple Cider donuts? Here is the recipe. They are yummy. Y'all know that I'm horrible with favorites! In today's world, I would probably choose a corn maze. I did love a good haunted house when I was young. I will definitely pick a Hallmark movie over something scary . . .though, once again, I loved a good scary movie way back when and I still read lots of thrillers and mysteries. I love a soft hooded sweatshirt!! I live in Alabama so I'm definitely going with football - SEC football - Auburn football. I definitely can't pick between red, orange, and yellow - fall leaves are so beautiful! In order, I might choose yellow, orange, red (today's choices!).

5. This time last year where were you and what were you doing?

My gut response was to talk about how we were living in the apartment and our house was a burned out shell BUT I just went back to my blog from October of last year and we were living life! I had just been on/worked our Women's retreat and had a great time. We were participating in our neighborhood supper clubs. We went to Grandparent's Day with granddaughter #1.

6. Insert your own random thought here. I'm teaching our adult Sunday School class this month and I'm teaching on Moses. Until recently, I never thought about how courageous the women in his life were -- the midwives who disobeyed and lied to Pharaoh, his mother and sister, and the Pharaoh's daughter who went against her father and took in a Hebrew baby. How about that for a random thought??

  1. OMG on that snake! He needn't bother; I'd probably pass on the spot from a heart attack.

    PS - War Eagle!

  4. My hubs likes snakes and knows all about 'em. We have mostly black snakes here, but are always on the lookout for Copperheads. They are super camouflaged. Those donuts sound amazing, and also not on my diet lol. I've heard the same about tilapia and we never buy it. Great random thought!

    1. I think my husband must like them, too. He gets mad when someone kills a non poisonous snake. A copperhead bit our son's dog and she was pitiful but did get well.
