Mother, May I? Hodgepodge

1. Let's compare this May to last May. What's changed? What remains very much the same? Let's see . . .last May, Mark's momma was still alive. My oldest sister was still alive. Our cat, Harvey, was still snuggling with us. Mark's brother and our sister-in-law were still alive. Our youngest granddaughter was only a month or two old and now she is a fun chunky monkey whose smile melts my heart. My sister is here to visit so that is different from last May!! I'm a college graduate now! We still live in the same house in the same neighborhood. We still go to the same church and are in the same Sunday School class.

2. What's something you may do this month? I may get a pedicure this weekend (please!!). I may get my eyebrows threaded (double please!). I wish our neighborhood pool would open and then I could say that I may go hang out at the pool.

3. Mother's Day is approaching (in the US of A)...in what way(s) are you like your mother? I evidently look like her. She died when I was 15 so I don't know if I act like her in any way. I don't think so. I think I probably act more like my daddy did.

4. Did you have a favorite book as a child? What was it and why was it a favorite. I loved Heidi. I thought her story was so cool. I'm sure there are others that I loved -- I definitely loved all of the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys books! I still like mysteries!!

5. Are you more of a tortoise or a hare? Explain.  I think I'm a hare. Mark and I both have a tendency to hurry up and wait. When Waze tells me it will take 24 minutes to get to my office, I try to beat her time! I walk quickly (for my age and size). One time I told someone what I do everyday between when I get up (5:00 a.m.) and when I arrive at the office (8:30 a.m.), they were shocked and said I do more in that amount of time than they do all day. I guess all of those things mean I'm a hare.

6. Insert your own random thought here. We've had a cool spell here for a day or so. The temp went down to 49 on Saturday and Sunday nights!! I'm loving the longer days. I found this funny meme this week.

  1. Sounds like you’ve had a tough year. I too loved Heidi and Nancy Drew.

  2. We had a cool morning too the other day - 55. The pool is open but still too cold! I might get a pedi too but with my job stuff in limbo, I feel like that splurge feels like a bad idea. My husband is like, just do it; it'll be fine. But something tells me not to!

    1. Today (Saturday) the local weather man (James Spann) said that we won't have cool temps like today until October. It is 60 degrees and rainy and windy in Birmingham today.

  3. Wow! Sounds like a really rough time this last year. I'm amazed at how much can change in such a short time.

On a happier note that meme is really funny. I remember when I was teaching elementary school, kids thought it was so weird I had another name besides my last name.

  5. Oh gosh! Sending love and hugs. It sounds like last May was so different from this May!
I would love a neighbourhood pool but they're not a thing over here in England. Hmmf! We're going through a cool spell here too after a scorcher last week.

    1. Since neighborhood pools aren't a thing -- do many people have private pools in their back yards (do you call it a garden??)?

  6. That first question.... man, a lot changes in a year, doesnt it?

I have loved seeing everyone's favorite book... Heidi - I dont think I've read it - watched the movie versions - but I may need to read it!

  7. So much loss in a single year. How hard that must be...sending you a hug. I am overdue for a mani/pedi but don't think it will happen til next week sometime. Our pool has been open for a couple of weeks but it's not warm enough for me yet. We are actually having a cool week this week (for us) and I want it to warm up so the lake heats up too. The grands have been in, but I need it 10 degrees warmer. Happy Mother's Day!

  8. I enjoyed your Hodgepodge answers, Lisa, and am sorry for all of your losses (comparing Mays). That's a lot to deal with. We have a lovely pool at our clubhouse and it is warm, even in the winter months. I don't go to the pool anymore. We had our own at our last home and hadn't used it for four or five years, unless company came. I love the Shirley Temple movie Heidi but have never read the book. Nancy Drew and Trixie Beldon were my pre-teen favorites!

  9. Wow, you had a lot of loss in one year. But also good things like seeing the first year of a grand baby's life and of course graduating college! I hope you are enjoying your visit with your sister. Happy Mother's Day on Sunday!

    1. Life is like that, isn't it? Some days are full of happy things and some weeks are tough. My sister will drive home tomorrow (Sunday). We had a nice long visit.

  10. I’m like you. I get up early and do a lot before I even make it in to work. I also walk fast (and talk fast).

  11. Oh my goodness, you've lived quite the year! I'm contemplating treating myself to a mani/pedi ... but have no idea what eyebrow threading is.

    1. Eyebrow threading is instead of waxing or tweezing - it is an unusual method but works for my skin. I don't have to have it done very often.

  12. That is an incredible amount of loss in a year and you finishing a degree in midst. God has brought you through. I hope you can get that pedicure and eyebrow threading done. Hope you have a lovely Mother's Day.

    1. You are so correct - God has been with us every step of the way! I'm hoping to get the pedi and eyebrows done soon.

  13. So many hard things in the last year. May (no pun intended) this year be filled with more joy than sadness. That photo at the end was hilarious.
