Ho! Ho! Ho! It's Magic . . .Hodgepodge!

Thank you to Joyce for the questions! The only magic in this post . . .is the magic of connection through this crazy thing known as the internet and this wonderful blog community. Join us!!

1. Do you struggle with the commercialization of the holiday season? What helps you keep your focus when the season’s busyness and commercialism start to take over? I sometimes get “caught up” in the commercialization, which is crazy since I work in a church. We now only buy for our three granddaughters, plus I buy for a few friends so the gift giving frenzy isn’t as much anymore . . .and I sometimes miss it. Our sermon series is doing a great job of reminding me of the focus -- Christmas Interrupted!

2. What's one small thing you want to savor before the year ends? I’m going with the first thing that popped into my head . . .ready? A cup of Irish Coffee. . . or a Moscow Mule haha! On a serious note, as of right now . . .we have scheduled our little immediate family gathering for the Saturday after Christmas. If everyone can stay well, I’m going to savor that time!!

3. December 9th is National Christmas Card Day. Do you still send Christmas cards? If so does yours include a photo or is it a more traditional card, or maybe homemade? How do you feel about the tradition of exchanging cards at the holidays? If Hanukkah is the holiday you celebrate in December do you send cards to mark the occasion? Yes, we (I) still send cards – a lot of cards. If you want one, email your address to me at lelliott@trinitybirmingham.com. Our card includes photos. I did receive a sweet homemade card recently. I love sending and receiving cards at the holidays.

4. What's your least favorite holiday related task? What's your favorite? My least favorite is decorating. My favorite is enjoying those decorations. Isn’t that a tidy little paradox? Hahaha! I actually don't hate decorating. I just always feel behind. I have not finished decorating yet.

5. Let's do a little holiday this or that?

  • shopping or wrapping - wrapping
  • baking or decorating - baking (if I've finished decorating!!)
  • eggnog or wassail - eggnog
  • real tree or artificial – prefer real, but these days we have artificial
  • turkey or ham – HoneyBaked Ham
  • white lights or colored lights – we have white lights, but I do love multi-colored, too
  • ugly sweaters or matching pjs - neither
  • peppermint or cinnamon - cinnamon
  • presents Christmas Eve or presents Christmas Day – Christmas Day (or the Saturday after Christmas 😊)

6. Insert your own random thought here. I’m typing this in the wee hours of Tuesday morning. I took my final last night – 17 questions . . .and an hour and 32 minutes later, I tapped the submit button. I have at least three weeks with no classes. Oh my goodness! I feel like a kid on Christmas break. I will still be working a million hours, but there won’t be school deadlines hanging over my head.
