A Grateful Sunday Stealing

Welcome to Sunday Stealing. Here they steal all types of questions from every corner of the blogosphere. Cheers to all of us thieves!

Since it's the Memorial Day weekend, we're going to keep this simple. On us all! The first question came courtesy of AI.

Memorial Day Questions

1) What freedom are you most grateful for?

Since this question was generated by AI, I decided to see how AI would answer this question. I definitely agree with AI on being grateful for freedom of speech. I am personally thankful for freedom of religion, but I sometimes wonder how people of other faiths feel. I am thankful that I have the freedom to vote! When I was taking one of my Sociology classes, I found out that women finally had freedom to have a credit card in the 1970's. Y'all . . .oh my goodness, that is so shocking to me. I was coming of age in the late 1970's and I remember having a couple of cards. I didn't realize that was a new freedom!

2) What book are you currently reading?

I am reading "The Lies We Trade" by Kristine Delano. It is ok. I read "Dinner with Edward" a few days ago.

3) What have you been listening to?

As I am typing this, I am listening to Mark tell me about the flooring he's been putting in at the farmhouse and I can hear the washing machine tumbling around with his farm clothes inside.

4) What shows or movies have you been watching?

We are watching Landman and Night Agent and Will Trent (it is over for now!). I have been watching Young Sheldon when I am here by myself (if I watch anything at all).

Thank you for playing! Please come back next week.

  1. Re: Women and credit – I saw an interview with Tracee Ellis Ross from the TV show Blackish. Her mother is Diana Ross, and during the 1970s was one of the highest paid women in America. But as a divorced woman, Diana Ross needed a co-signer for a mortgage because of discriminatory lending laws. I found that shocking. How did single working mothers who weren't superstars get by?

  3. I hope this summer I will get a chance to catch up on some TV viewing.
I tell my history and sociology students about the evolution of women's rights from about the 1960s through today and they are shocked when I tell them that my mother never had a credit card in her own name (she passed away in the early 70s) and that when I was a senior in high school I was pushed to become a teacher because no women were allowed in the field I wanted to pursue (I wanted to be a political scientist).

  6. When I married, my mother told me to make sure all the credit cards were in my name, or to have credit that was only in my name. So all of the credit cards are in my name, or my name is first. But it doesn't matter, they still default to the male as the primary account holder, even if I'm the one paying the bill.
