I'm joining up with Joyce at From This Side of the Pond for Hodgepodge Wednesday. I would love to hear your answers to any of these questions!
1. What is one good thing you often take for granted? Every time we travel outside the United Stated, I realize (once again) that I take “clean, running
water at the touch of a fingertip” for granted. I also take regular toilets,
toilet seats, toilet paper, and paper towels for granted. I know that I just
named more than one thing.
2. What's the boldest piece of clothing in your wardrobe? I bought a really fun and cute dress from Talbots this year. I think the dress was horrifying to Mark haha! I enjoyed wearing it.

3. Do you think common interests or common values are the key to people getting along? Elaborate. I think knowing and loving people who have different political views/thoughts/lifestyles might come first which might involve realizing you have common values and common interests. Mark has very different political views than some of our friends. I'm thinking of one person especially. She and Mark are on opposite ends of the political spectrum. They will never understand the other's view on politics BUT they met several years ago and really like (love) each other a lot . . .so they get along well. They would probably never discuss politics. Our country has gone beserk with hate. People hate people who vote differently than they. People hate people who live a different lifestyle. Civility seems to have gone out the window. I'm not pointing fingers at either side - both parties have added fuel to the fire of hate. I'm writing this post in the wee hours of Tuesday before the election. I'm trying not to worry about tomorrow.
4. November 6 is National Nacho Day...do you like nachos? How do you like yours? Do you make them at home or only order out? I like this question much better! I do like nachos! I like chips with ground beef and black beans (or refried beans) with cheese and salsa and sour cream and guac. I rarely order them out because they are so fattening! I made some at home this weekend. I counted out my tostito bite size rounds and put them on a plate. I added reduced fat cheese and black beans and zapped them in the microwave until cheese was melted. I added salsa. I didn't have all of the other ingredients but these were still tasty! Moe's BBQ has several locations in our area and they serve Redneck Nachos - kettle chips with your choice of pork, turkey, or chicken, jalapeno, queso, red and white BBQ sauce, fresh tomato. I've never eaten Moe's nachos, but I've heard they are excellent.
5. Have you spent any time in Washington D.C.? If so what did you think? If not, is that a place you'd like to visit? What do you think about politics as a career choice? I've been to Washington D.C. twice. I think that is correct. When Laura and Glenn were four months old, Mark had a business trip to Washington. I went along and slept for a lot of hours and ordered room service! During the first ten weeks of their little lives, I never had more than two hours sleep. I was still pretty tired at the four month mark. I do remember hanging out a little with the wife of the owner of the company. She was old enough to be my mother and she was very shy. Mark and I also went to a play at a cool theater and we went to the Smithsonian. When Laura and Glenn were in the youth choir at church, we went to Washington D.C. while on a choir tour one summer. We went to the tomb of the unknown soldier and it was Memorial Day, so that was powerful. I can't remember everything we did. I wouldn't want to live there, but it was an interesting place to visit. I would NEVER choose politics as a career choice. My skin is not thick enough. In today's world, dirt diggers find every piece of dirt in a person's past and then make up things. I wouldn't survive.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
I like my nachos with ground beef too. I have heard of those squatty potties. You need to be in shape for those! I am sure there are a lot of things we take for granted. Like having a computer.
ReplyDeleteWhile we were on the trip, I told someone that I was so thankful that I ride my stationary bike everyday because my legs are strong. When there are no toilet seats, there is a lot of "hovering" over the toilet haha!
DeleteA squatty potty? Seriously what do the handicapped or even mildly disabled do? WOW- we truly are fortunate! The nacho question was much nicer to answer, wasn´t it :). I like your dress from Talbot´s! They have some completely traditional prints/ styles and a few that are more out there! Have a great Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I wish you could have seen my husband's face the first time I wore it! hahaha!
DeleteYes to your #6. I have really been trying to be as thankful as I can. Because I take for granted the fact that we've got it so good! And I hope now our country can start to heal. I totally agree about civility!
ReplyDeleteYes! Yes! Yes! We talked with the young adults that come to our house every Tuesday night about being grateful in all situations. It is tough sometimes!
DeleteI've been in some unusual restrooms in various parts of the world, Asia especially. I like a fun dress. I don't wear a lot of patterned dresses but like to have one or two in my wardrobe. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI wish I had a photo of my face the first time (2016) I entered a restroom with a hole in the floor. I actually turned around and walked back out.
DeleteOh my, that toilet!! No, no. no, no..... I enjoyed your answers to this week's hodgepodge of questions! Always fun.
ReplyDeleteThat kind of toilet is common in several other countries. The Istanbul airport is REALLY nice and they had several regular stalls in each restroom, one of those picture above, plus a handicap stall.
DeleteI was in Ukraine for a missions trip and yep, squatty potty, that is what we had in the orphanage I worked at. ;-) We brought our own TP.

Yes on the TP! Our Greek tour guide told us that Americans clog up their ancient pipes by flushing our toilet paper!! It would be hard to get used to not flushing your paper.
DeleteYes I agree with your answer to #1. I had to use one of those types of stalls when I was in Italy at the soccer stadium and it wasn't as nicely appointed as your photo!! It was so gross and I almost threw up. OYE. Happy Hodgepodge!
ReplyDeleteI've never used one . . .and I hope I never have to do so. I think it is interesting that some people actually prefer to use that type. I can't imagine having that type of toilet in my home.
DeleteSo that’s what the squatty potty looks like! My sister was appalled when she went to Iran to meet her husband’s family and she said they had a “ hole” in the floor. I’m sure they must look better now than how she described it!
ReplyDeleteOne would need some good thigh muscles to manage! 😬
We eat nachos for dinner at times! We figure, since it’s just us, we can do that!
Cute dress.
The first squatty potty I encountered in 2016, was not as nice as this either. It was basically a "hole in the floor." I cannot imagine how your sister felt when she was visiting her future in-laws.
DeleteI enjoyed your answers. I agree on the traveling, though I haven't traveled to too many places with "interesting" things..haha.
