I'm joining up with Joyce and friends for Wednesday Hodgepodge.
1. What are your current priorities in this season of life?
Elaborate as much or as little as you like. I’m not sure where I thought I
would be at 66 years old, but I’m pretty sure I didn’t expect to be a college
student. That identifies one of my priorities – getting at least my Associate
Degree if not my Bachelor’s. We will see. Mark and I both tend to focus on the
needs of others first. We are trying to take care of ourselves and travel, too.
We raised our children, put them through college debt-free, and now we are trying
to focus on ourselves a little more. We are always going to have God first and
we are always going to try to help others when needed. We are trying to do things
that we might not be able to do later in life.
2. What's one thing you wish you had more of? Time! My
momma always wanted “more time” and I understand that more these days.
3. Do you celebrate Halloween? If so, what are your
Halloween traditions? Any special plans for Halloween this year? We do
celebrate Halloween. I love to decorate, and it is a big deal in our
neighborhood. Two of our young adults will come over and help me give out candy
to the 1000 or 1200 trick or treaters. We start giving out around 5 and close
up shop at 8:00 or when we run out of candy.
4. Last thing you ate that contained chocolate? Last thing
you made that called for chocolate? I ate a built bar this morning –
Chocolate and coconut. I made a couple of Tollhouse pies a few weeks ago for
different neighbors.
5. Do you prefer laid back weekends or do you like to have a
lot of plans? Thinking back to this past weekend... which was it? This
past weekend we didn’t have enough plans. I had sinus surgery last Wednesday
and it slowed us down. I think Mark was bored to death. We enjoy having plans to
do fun things!
6. Insert your own random thought here. We’ve had no
measurable rain here in Birmingham, AL for the entire month of October –
actually yesterday was day 31 with no rain for most of Alabama. We haven’t had
that many days without rain since 1924 – 100 years ago! It is still very warm
during the day – I’m still wearing Birkenstocks. The nights are a little
cooler. The leaves are beginning to change - this is the road out of our neighborhood. What is the weather like where you live??
That is a lot of trick n treaters! We need rain too and love those fall trees!
ReplyDeleteThere are so many trick or treaters - both kids and adults are dressed up many times. It is fun!
DeleteOur weather has been great, temperature wise though we are in need of rain, too. It´s supposed to rain tomorrow for the first time in weeks- we need the rain but hopefully it is gone by trick or treating time. Our ToT lasts two hours from 6:00 pm to 8:00. Yours lasts a long time! You must give out a ton of candy! I hope you are recovering well from surgery.
ReplyDeleteI wish we had limits on our time for trick or treaters. I'm surprised our HOA hasn't thought of a time limit!
DeleteWe haven't had rain since the hurricane. I have to say the weather has been absolutely glorious but we do need rain. That is a lot of trick or treaters!! Wow! I've never lived in a neighborhood with that many. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteHalloween night is really fun!
DeleteMy boss is on the Appalachian Service Project board. He toured some of the hard hit areas up your way this last week. I know y'all, like us, need the rain, but I'm hoping that has given those folks a window of time to make a plan.
ReplyDeleteI've never visited Alabama but your trees are similar to ours in color although we are at peak currently here in eastern NY and past peak in the mountains to the north.
ReplyDeleteWe no longer get a lot of trick or treaters...ever since Covid. Up here in NY it seems that parents are more into bringing their children to parties or trunk and treat events.
you're just starting college at age 66??? Well that's GREAT! I hope you have much success. I loved my college and grad school days but the work load was intense for what i was studying. I can't imagine doing it at age 66!! (i'm 64 and newly retired from teaching). Enjoyed your answers!!
I started back to school in January of 2022 and have taken one course each semester. I will graduate with my Associate's degree in May 2025. Then I will decide if I'm going to keep on.
DeleteFun questions again this week. I enjoyed your answers! I can't even imagine 1200 kids knocking on the door. I thought 100 was too many! LOL It's nice that you have some help! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteIf you lived nearby, I would invite you to come sit on our front porch just to watch!!
DeleteI think you win the prize for the most trick or treaters! Yikes! I miss having them come to our door. I hope your sinus surgery healing has gone well. It is so good to keep our minds engaged in learning no matter how old we get. Happy Hodgepodge to you!
ReplyDeleteIf we ever move from here, I would miss the fun and excitement of Halloween night!
DeleteOh Man!!! would love to have that many trick or treaters. I don't have any and go to my son in law's house. I miss seeing all the costumes and giving out all the candy. The weather is very warm here in Virginia. I am ready for some cooler temps.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing the costumes, too! Some are so clever!
DeleteMy goodness, that's a BUNCH of trick or treaters! We might have 5 and that will be the 5 children that live here on the hill. We're a bit off the beating path so we don't ever have any outside of the kids that live here. Sinus surgery sounds so painful, glad that's behind you. Happy rest of the week!
ReplyDeleteAt our last house, we had 10 or less trick or treaters once our kids grew up. The first year we lived here, we had no idea how many trick or treaters we would have. We ran out of candy in the first hour!
DeleteWe haven't had rain this month here either in my part of Texas. It poured last night which was so nice! It was cooler temps this morning. It's been feeling like summer lately with a little bit cooler in the mornings.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the trick or treaters, wow that's a LOT!!!
Hi Lisa, WOW!!! 1000 to 1200 Trick or Treaters... have fun. I like to see what the favorite costume of the year is. One year we had several Dorothy and Toto's visit us. Hee Hee!
