Royal Hodge Podge

From this Side of the Pond
Today is Wednesday so it must be HODGE PODGE! Feel free to copy and paste the questions into your own blog and answer . . .then link up with Joyce.

1. The last place you visited/patronized where you felt like you were given 'the royal treatment'?
Just last week, we went for manis and pedis before the wedding. We love the folks at Sapphire Nails and Spa and the location is so convenient to our house. They accommodating our party of five with ease. We all left feeling pampered!

Harvey gets the Royal Treatment EVERY.SINGLE.DAY

I'm going to do a whole series of blog posts about the wedding and especially the wedding vendors - they were ALL amazing and all of them gave us the Royal Treatment!!

2. The last task you completed that was a 'royal pain'?
Let's see . . .sometimes . . .working in a church . . .we see not only the best side of folks but THE WORSE side of folks . . .so sometimes dealing with someone might be a royal pain. I have a better example!!  A guy ran into the back of my car on April 27. My insurance company - a well know one that has S.F. initials - has not done all they could do and we are LONG TIME faithful customers with very few claims. Dealing with this has been a ROYAL PAIN. (I have no idea why I keep typing in all caps - I think I'm shouting in my head!!)

3. How have your strengths helped you succeed? How have your faults hindered you?
As a church staff, we have all taken the Strengths Finder and also, we've taken/read the Enneagram. My number one strength is Positivity and having a good attitude and a smile on my face and the thought that it will all be ok, helps a lot! I'm a number 1 on the Enneagram and trying to make things perfect sometimes hinders me. Perfection can be a strength but sometimes it bogs me down.

4. If you found a remote that could rewind, fast forward, stop and start time, what would you do with it? Oh - good question. Joyce - where in the world do you find these questions? Do these questions come to you ion the middle of the night? Our grandbaby girl is growing up so very fast. I sometimes wish I could pause time. We are all healthy and whole so a pause would be nice to enjoy this season.

5. Any special plans for the Memorial Day weekend? Will you in some way honor or recognize the meaning of this day (remembering people who died in service to their country)? Have you ever been to Arlington National Cemetery? Does your town do anything special to mark the day?
Our office is closed on Memorial Day so I'm going to take Friday off and enjoy a four day weekend. I always feel a little sad when I look at social media and realize that everyone else in the whole wide world has wonderful plans but us. Yes, I know I sound a tad dramatic. As far as special plans to celebrate, we don't have any. We may ride down to our farm for a day and a night. I've promised Mark that I will go at some point. I will give thanks for those who gave their lives and for those who served. I have been to Arlington National Cemetery with our youth choir (I was a chaperone) and we were there on Memorial Day so we were able to watch the soldiers lay the wreath on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Within a 30 minute drive from my home is a place called American Village. I've never been so I should make myself go one day this summer . . .they probably have events on Memorial Day!!

6.  Insert your own random thought here.

We bought new cushions for our front porch furniture and Mark washed everything and rubbed everything with teak oil . . .and we bought three new pottery barn chairs for our screen porch. Getting ready for summer!!

we do have a few decorations in honor
of Memorial Day

look at that tiny rocking chair!! Guess who
sits there??  It was her daddy's chair

someone (Harvey!) is getting Royal Treatment again
I spy with my little eye - a big kitty cat!!
these chairs are on the downstairs
side porch that is screened in - we have four of the
same chairs on our upstairs porch on the front of the
house (over the porch with the rocking chairs)

These chairs are our anniversary
gift to each other -- they are
THE MOST comfortable outdoor
chairs
One last thing -- a sneak peek of the bride and groom from Saturday -- our very own ROYAL family!

  1. Well I'm very excited to hear wedding details and see pictures. Congratulations to the newlyweds!! We left that insurance company and now use one whose initial is G : ) We've been very happy with them.

  2. You just reminded me that I need to call said S.F. company. We had home and auto through them but got rid of home and then my bill went up 50 bucks. But the bill they sent was confusing and did not show numbers that equated to the 50 dollar rise. Plus, we have the little doohicky that is supposed to give you a discount and we have yet to receive it!

  3. I remember my daughter's wedding, a few years ago. I still have so many emotions over it...

    Your porch looks VERY inviting!

Ministry... I have felt, for a long while, that the exposure to some of other's "worsts" is another element that makes the job a ministry. But God is good, all the time... *sigh*

And rest assured, if you start to feel like it's "everyone but you", know that it's us too and we are PROBABLY feeling that very same way...
