Crawfish Boil

One of the beauties of living in the south is being able to entertain friends and neighbors "in the yard." Some of the best parties happen outside -- from tailgates at football games in the fall all the way to fish fries and on to crawfish boils!

Our son and lovely daughter-in-law host a crawfish boil every year and they have been so gracious to include us"old farts" by inviting us to the party.

Do you know what a crawfish is? Some people say "crayfish" - that is with a long A sound. Some people call them mudbugs (that sounds gross to me). Some people call them crawdads. I'm sure the list could go on but this is what they are . . freshwater crustaceans -- they look like a giant bug (hence the name mudbug) or if you want to be more refined -- they look like tiny lobsters.

There were margaritas and a keg of high gravity beer. There was cornhole and a kiddie slide. There was a tent over the back yard. There was a GIANT pot. There were desserts galore. There was pimento cheese (another southern favorite) as an appetizer. The kids ate mac and cheese (I snitched a bite to put out the fire in my mouth) and chicken fingers. There was corn on the cob and new potatoes . . .my son even threw a few shrimp into that pot for his dear old mama!!

There was even a tiny grandbaby girl and her pops!

When everything is cooked, it is poured out onto tables and everyone
stands around the table and eats (or you can do like I did and make a
plate and sit down!!)

There was a LOT of food!!

Lots of fun was had by all!

If you are a regular blog reader, stay tune over the next couple of weeks - I've been contacted about hosting a give away!!!
