O Is for Outside

#AtoZChallenge 2025 letter O

We've made it through the halfway point! Yay! This April A to Z Challenge has truly been a challenge - which is good!

O is for Outside

Mark laughs at me when we are at home because I spend much more time inside than outside. Part of the reason is that I have such horrible allergies. Another part of the reason is that we live in Alabama and sometimes it is so hot and humid outside that I have no desire to be out there unless we are at the lake or the beach.

When we travel, we spend TONS of time outside and I actually love it. I love how everyone walks everywhere in so many other countries.

This was several years ago (2020 right before covid!). We are standing on the banks of the Jordan River.

This is on the shore of the Sea of Galilee.

This is going to drive me crazy because I can't remember the name of the place. I was unable to climb this (big climb up to top of hill) on a previous trip due to my weight and I was so proud to make it to the top with friends!!! We are in Israel - i know that much!

Here we are in Turkey.

Here I am at the top of Innsbruck, Austria - we are way up high and it was so windy!!

Here we are in Oberammergau, Germany.

Here we are -- in Italy and Austria at the same time.

Do you consider yourself an inside or an outside person?

  1. I used to be an outside person when we lived in the country or even when I was young in Detroit and walked everywhere. Now, I rarely get much time outside. Makes me sad too.

    1. I played outside a lot as a kid and we walked all over our little town or rode our bikes . . .and then I grew up :-)

  2. Well, I say, since you love being outside when you travel and not when you are at home...plan another trip! Maybe you have already planned one. I'm trying to make something happen here but things aren't clicking yet. Take care and have a beautiful day inside or out!

  3. I spend most of my time in my house, but I do like being outside. Living in Los Angeles gas is expensive so we try not to drive much. We live in a very urbanized area so walking in nature nearby is not much, but I've got a lot of businesses that I could walk to. We usually opt to drive anywhere we go. My wife doesn't even like to stroll around our very nice gated community let alone leave the gates for the wilds of urbanity around us>

    1. I wish we had businesses within walking distance. We have two mediocre restaurants within walking disance and we have a drugstore!!

    2. I can think of at least 20 restaurants within easy walking distance ( less than 15 minutes on foot) that range from high end nice restaurants to the everyday fast food places. It's nice to have this in case driving becomes much more expensive than it is now.

  4. I don't go outside much anymore. The sun in Florida is unforgiving and I have to see the dermatologist every six months. Loved your photos!

    1. I had to have a skin cancer removed from my ear this past year so I need to be careful, too, BUT I love being in the sun (at the pool, beach, etc.)

  5. I'm definitely an outside person except in the month of April when pollen is in full swing. Hubs is cleaning the decks today so hoping to get out there this weekend. I would love to live where I can walk everywhere. We had that in the UK and I rarely drove anywhere. It's rare to find that here, unless you're in a big city but I don't want to live in a big city.

  6. The older I get, the less I want to leave the comfort of my heated/air conditioned home. LOL! But I do enjoy sitting on my back deck or front porch when the temperature is just perfect. I've done a lot of traveling and now in our late 70s, we have slowed down.

  7. Hmm, that’s a good question. I do find I spend most of my time inside and used to love camping for being outside in nature. Maybe it’s because when I’m outside, the list of jobs in the garden is daunting.
