Kaleidoscope of Color and Smells

#AtoZChallenge 2025 letter K

I'm so glad that we are approaching the halfway mark of the April A to Z challenge. I knew that trying to write everyday would be tough because . . .well, because of life! haha! Anyway, I'm here and we have finished another week of writing.

K is for Kaleidoscope of Color and Smells

One of the things I love to do when we travel is to take photos of pretty colors and to smell the good smells!

The first pictures are from Greece, Turkey, and Egypt.

There are so many lemons on this tree.
It was gorgeous!

I know that when some people travel, they eat
food from street vendors. I don't UNLESS our
tour guide says, "let's eat this. It is safe."
The smells emanating from this street vendor -
oh my goodness! It smelled so good, but we
didn't eat.

I think it is funny that I can
order a Cosmopolitan in
Hoover, AL or in Artemida, Greece
and it tastes the same and looks
the same! Pretty color!

Didim - near Didyma - we had to
walk down a residential street to
a restaurant and these flowers
and the orange tree below were
spectacular

The flowers were beautiful! In October
in the U.S., we usually have beautiful
fall leaves but they still had
flowers and fruit in Turkey.

The market in Istanbul was definitely
a Kaleidoscope of color, smells, and
sounds.

I always want to buy a scoop or two
but . . .I don't. I imagine the dried beans
would set off an alarm in my suitcase!

The scent of spices was in the air!

The next four photos were snapped on our last trip
to Israel in February of 2023.
The markets in the old city of Jerusalem
remind me of the market in Istanbul.

Below is a spice market and it smelled divine.

I think the photo below was in the Muslim quarter of the old city of Jerusalem, but I'm not totally sure.

This was a cool market - another kaleidoscope of
color and smells!

I've never purchased bread from one of the
bread carts in the Old City of Jerusalem
but it always looks so good to me.

Where have you experienced a kaleidoscope of colors and smells?

  4. Such fantastic photos and I love using kaleidoscope of colors and smells (and add sounds). Reminds me of our time living in Cuena, Ecuador.

  6. Thank you, great photos. Colors, selected well as you have, bring joy. The image of food brings something else, which I'm about to go take care of in my kitchen right now. :)

  9. I love the photos of the markets…one of my favourite things to see when travelling, and yes, the Istanbul and Israeli ones do seem similar. Markets also offer such a great kaleidoscope of colour - of fresh fruit and veg, sweets, ice cream or just tempting things to buy. I admit I’m cautious about street food too.
