$80,000 Sunday Stealing

Welcome to Sunday Stealing. Here we will steal all types of questions from every corner of the blogosphere. Our promise to you is that we will work hard to find the most interesting and intelligent questions. Cheers to all of us thieves!

Back in 2007, Sparky Duck at Philly Transplant played the $50,000 Meme. That was nearly 20 years ago. To make it more relevant to our day and age, it's been updated and is now the ...

The $80,000 Meme

Premise: A philanthropist awards you $80,000 with the stipulation that you must spend half on yourself and half for the benefit of others.

For our overseas players, here's a currency calculator

1. Of the $40,000 you must spend on yourself:

a. First you throw yourself a lavish birthday party. Tell us about it. I would rent a frozen margarita machine . . .heck, maybe I should just hire a bartender to make frozen margaritas! I would invite our kids and grandkids, some other family members, our neighbors, our friends from church (which would include some of my co-workers). I would have it catered - maybe Mexican food to go with those margaritas! I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to have live music. Our yard is pretty small. Heck - maybe we would rent the neighborhood townhall! I want to have a cool party favor to give everyone as they leave.

b. Then you take off on a cruise. Where are you headed? I think this cruise should be to Spain and Portugal. How about this one?  or maybe we would go on an Azamara cruise to Scandinavia.

2. Of the $40,000 you must spend for the benefit of others:

a. Who would be on your gift list? What would buy them? Let's see . . .$40,000 isn't enough to buy houses or cars for anyone - but I'm not complaining about having $40,000 to spend on folks. Our kids and grandkids would be on the gift list, for sure.

b. Which charities would you support? I would give some to our church, to The Hub (where Mark volunteers), to The Firehouse Shelter (shelter for unhoused men), and . . .

Thank you for playing! Please come back next week.
