A HOT Hodgepodge!

1. On July 29th 1957 The Tonite Show premiered with Jack Parr as it's host. This marked the beginning of the modern day talk show. Do you watch any daytime or late night talk shows today? Do you have any thoughts on the hubbub surrounding the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, or are you more in the camp of 'who is Stephen Colbert?

I don't have an opinion about the late show. I'm at work all day so I definitely don't watch daytime TV and we are usually in bed by 10:00, so I don't watch late night talk shows either.

2. What's the best part of your day?

I am a morning person! I get up early and enjoy the quiet. I have a diet pepsi and I ride the stationary bike . . .and then I get ready to go to work.

3. What's something your generation does that you actually dislike?

I strongly dislike the tendency of several Baby Boomers to turn everything into a political matter. I also don't like when someone my age dismisses the opinion of young adults. Both of those things could be any generation, but I've noticed my own doing both things quite often.

4. When you cook do you clean as you go, or clean it all up once you're finished cooking? What's the last thing you cooked/baked in your own kitchen?

I only clean as I go IF I need to reuse some items such as the mixer bowl. I really love when Mark comes in and washes as I cook!! I served baked spaghetti last night for the young adults so I used one of my ovens yesterday.

5. Sum up your July in ten words or less.

July: HOT 🥵! Time with granddaughters plus learning LOTS about Human Sexuality

6. Insert your own random thought here.

My random thought today is actually a couple of random questions? Here are the things I bought on Saturday. What should I put on the bottom shelf of this piece of furniture? It is located in the dining room.

Here is a closer look. I bought the three old cups and saucers and the red pitcher. Just FYI, I have a little red in every room but one. I love a pop of red in every room, which is actually tough because we are all Auburn people around here. At least I'm a student at Samford University and their colors are red and blue. I'll claim it!
What should I put on that bottom shelf?

I also bought the fish picture. I had admired it a month or so ago, but was not going to pay the price. It was on sale 65% off on Saturday. The person is trying to clean out their booth. Sold! I originally bought it to hang over this bench on our screened porch. There will be an inch or so on each side of the picture if we hang it here.

Or should we hang it in this big open space between the two windows? Thoughts?

  1. Have you tried taking a picture of the piece of furniture and putting it in to AI? AI will generate some options for you. My daughter just did this with a corner cabinet and it was pretty amazing what they came up with. I think the fish could go in either spot. I will say I think the young and the 'old' have something in common in having their opinions discounted. My mom used to say that was the hardest thing about her age and why she didn't like telling people how old she was because they immediately discounted her. Have a great day!

    1. I need to put it back in AI! I did it a few weeks ago, but I need to try again. Thanks for your opinion on the fish! That is true - sometimes I feel invisible to younger people. It is both the young and the old!

  2. I love the sound of your mornings!
You are right, not everything has something to do with politics!
What great buys! I love the fish picture!

  4. Love the fish! And yes, it's definitely been hot. We have to use the sprinkler on our AC unit to help it get to normal in our house - and we keep it at only 76!

    1. As I sit here typing at 9:22 p.m., there is a little yellow triangle on the bottom of the screen - heat advisory!

  7. The fish pic would look awesome between the 2 windows. (my mom was a part time interior decorator and she'd say the same). that bottom shelf already has stuff on it. I'd be more inclined to add some more tea cups if you have them....or 3 really cool coffee mugs and ditch the other stuff yu have now, especially the dated glassware on the left.

I used to love the Kathie Lee and Regis show when I had days off from teaching which was rare until xmas vacation. I'm retired now and NEVER watch TV.

    1. Oh yes! I should have said that - the stuff on the bottom shelf is NOT staying! Thanks for your advice.

  8. Hi Lisa! Thanks for stopping at my blog.
I agree that too much is about politics. As for the Stephen Colbert show, I think that's part of the problem - those late night shows seem to be all about politics. I don't watch them because of that, and because of the time! I used to enjoy Johnny Carson occasionally.
I like your fish pic and think it would look nice between the windows.

  9. I’m so sick of political topics finding their way into conversations. I miss the low-key days when conversations didn’t have underlining nuances.

  10. Hi Lisa! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I enjoyed reading your answers. I am a morning person too. Yes, I completely agree that everything has become way too political - and divisive! I hope your week is going well. I'll come back and visit again soon!
