Sunday Stealing

Thanks to Bev for the Sunday Stealing questions! I'm joining up with the gang!

Has reading a book ever changed your life? Which one and why, if yes? Yes, there have been several. I read a John Grisham book about capital punishment and my mind was changed. I read American Dirt and my opinions were changed. I read Same Kind of Different As Me and my opinions were changed. Also, in a different way, I was changed by What’s So Amazing about Grace by Philip Yancey.

Do you prefer to read fiction or non fiction. I prefer to read fiction. I’ve always read as an escape.

If you could be a character in any novel you've read, who would you be? Great question. I need to think about this. I answered all of the other questions and I’m back to this one – I don’t have a specific character in mind, but I could be a 66 year old female who solves all the mysteries.

Has reading a book ever made you cry? Yes . . .and I don’t cry easily but a book or a movie has often brought me to tears.

(Which one and why?) I’ve teared up during Disney movies – if someone dies . . . or if an animal dies. I've teared up during a Bluey episode. Same thing in a book – if someone or an animal dies, I’m sad. I cried while reading Incredibly Bright Creatures. On Wednesday, while making the dressing that is a combo of my mother’s recipe (she died many years ago on Monday of Thanksgiving week), my mother-in-law’s recipe (she died in June of this year) and my sister’s recipe (she died on Tuesday of this week), I was feeling sad but had not been able to cry over my sister’s death. I watched a Christmas movie and was able to cry.

How many books do you read a year? I try to read a book each week which would make 52 books a year. . . but I think I’m more on track to read about 40 this year.

Name a book you had to read, but hated: My American History book – I haven’t really hated it. Some of the book is interesting. It is just all jumbled up in my head.

Why did you hate it? It is so many facts and dates and names of battles and I can’t keep them straight. If I were going to be a History Professor, I might enjoy it more.

If someone wrote a book about your life what would it be called? She Overcame So Many Things (sub-title in smaller print – With the help of God, family, framily, and friends

Have you ever written (or started to write) a book? I’ve thought about it in a passing thought. My husband always thought I should write a book. I don’t think I have enough stories in me to write a book nor do I think I’m a good enough writer. I will admit that when I am given a discussion question and know a little about the subject matter . . .I can write an answer that will garner at least part of the credit, if not all.

If you could pick a book you've read to make into a movie, what would it be? The Miss Fortune Mysteries would make hilarious movies! The author is Jana Deleon.

What was your favorite book as a child? I have no idea. I loved to read and was walking to the public library and checking out books far beyond my age. I asked my mother this question at dinner when I was quite young, “Mom – what does ill ledge it mint mean?” She said, “What?” I think I told her what I was reading and how the word was used in the sentence or some such nonsense. I was asking what illegitimate meant – just in case you couldn’t figure that out. I didn’t pronounce it correctly.  I did love the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys books and I loved Agatha Christie when I was a little older.

What are you reading right now? I am reading Now or Never Thirty-one on the Run by Janet Evanovich. I love the Stephanie Plum novels almost as much as the Miss Fortune ones – perfect escape reading.

  1. I came to my anti-death penalty stance a long while ago, mostly from the disproportional number of folks on death row of color. And then the exonerations! If ypu write your book, it should be about something concrete; life story's too hard. I'm working on something...

    1. You are correct. There are a disproportionate number of folks on death row who are not white. I will read your book!

  3. I loved Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys, too. I am on the library waiting list for the latest Stephanie Plum book. It said I'd get it in about 28 weeks!
