Thankful for the Hodgepodge

Thank you to Joyce at From This Side of the Pond for our weekly questions.

1. What does patriotism mean to you? I'm proud to be an American - even when I don't agree with everything. . . yet, when traveling . . .there have been a few times where I felt like maybe I should just keep my mouth shut. I am thankful for the freedom to be me, to worship in the church where I want to worship, and to be able to say what I want (within reason). I'm also thankful for all those who have fought for our freedom.

2. September-October-November...your favorite fall month? Tell us why. If you live in the southern hemisphere use these months but sub spring for the word fall. I love November and her rustling leaves of gold, red, and orange. I love Thanksgiving - the meal and the time together as a family. I love a crisp cool morning which is then warmed by the sun into a pleasant day. I love fall decorations and I have out all of my pilgrims!

3. A song you love with the word thanks (or some form of that word)  in the title or lyrics? This is an oldie, but goodie to me. I think I first heard it when I was on my Emmaus Walk back when I was 33 years old.

Give thanks with a grateful heart

Give thanks to the Holy One

Give thanks, because he’s given

Jesus Christ, his son.

And now, let the weak say, “I am strong”

Let the poor say, “I am rich”

Because of what the Lord has done for us.

Give thanks!

Give thanks!

4. November is National Peanut Butter Month. Are you a fan? YUM! I love peanut butter. What's the last peanut butter bite you had? I ate some peanut butter straight from a spoon the other day! Fill in the blank: peanut butter and chocolate - like a Reese's pumpkin or tree.

I don't even eat sweets, but chocolate and peanut butter are divine together.

Oh, and you can't say jelly.

5. This week's gratitude question-What event from this past year are you most grateful for? Wow! I am thankful for so many things - good health, family, friends - we had a rough year in 2024 - losing Mark's mom, our kitty boy, and my oldest sister. 2025 started off with us losing our sister-in-law and Mark's brother and their deaths were only one month apart. I am thankful that we are all upright. Seriously.

6. Insert your own random thought here. Mu gynocologist has sent out a letter - she is moving away from regular care and that means I have to find another. Luckily, my yearly is in December before she moves on . . .but I hate having to find a new one before next December. To me, finding a new person to do my hair or a new gynocologist are in the same bucket haha! Who are the people in your life that you hate having to replace (like a hair stylist or a doctor)?

  1. A new hair person is at the top of my list. In all our many moves I always say that's one of the worst parts of it lol. I love November for the same reasons. It's moving fast for some reason and I'm trying to pump the brakes a little. Hope you have a great day!

  2. I totally agree with that you can be proud to love your country even when you don't agree with everything.

  3. Singing along with that song. It's an oldy but goody. Yes, and amen to your answer to #1. Your family really had a tough several months and I do understand celebrating the fact that you are standing. Oye, sorry you have to find a new doctor... Keep smiling in your happy month of November!

  4. Hairdresser, you betcha! Right now, I'm looking for a new dentist whose hygienist's superior attitude doesn't make me feel like a child.
