It Is Time for Sunday Stealing!

More to come on our trip . . .but today, it is all about Stealing - Sunday Stealing. Thank you to our kind host for hunting the questions each week!

Welcome to Sunday Stealing. Here we will steal all types of questions from every corner of the blogosphere. Our promise to you is that we will work hard to find the most interesting and intelligent questions. Cheers to all of us thieves!

Jackie K. at Working Through It found 20 questions on Quora that can "tell you the most about a person." By using the 10 best, we're going to learn more about you.

What 10 Questions Can Tell You the Most about a Person

1. If you were an animal, what animal would you be? I want to be a cat - a big cat! In reality, it might be better to be someone's pet dog. Dogs wake up and think every day is wonderful and they are happy to be with their people. All of this is said by a person who has never had a dog - only cats!

2. Are you generous? I think I'm generous, but I am sure that I could be more generous.

3. Of the following, which consistently gives you the most pleasure: a) music, b) money, c) books, d) science, e) spirituality, f) food and wine, g) movies? Good question -- I love reading for pleasure, but it is nice to have money to buy books for my kindle. My faith (spirituality) is integral to who I am - a Christian who loves God and loves all people. I am a work in progress. I really do love good food. Music is nice, science is very important, and movies are movies. I guess my roundabout answer means that books, money, my faith, and good food are at the top of the list.

4. Describe your dancing ability. My dancing ability is next to none. Mark and I can clumsily slow dance - he needs to consume several drinks first! I actually took disco lessons at UAB back in the late 70's or early 80's. Do I remember it? NOPE!

5. What do you think your worst enemy really thinks of you? I hope I don't have any true enemies. There is one woman who goes to our church who dislikes me immensely and takes every opportunity to talk badly about me. She usually does it to someone who knows me well and they look at her and know it is all lies. To be honest, I'm not even totally sure why she feels that way.

6. Can you tell when someone is lying to you? oh my goodness - I had not read this question when I answered number 5 about the woman who lies!! Sometimes I get a funny feeling when someone is telling me something and I think to myself, "is this the truth? or not?"

7. Describe how it feels to fall in love. Wow - Mark and I have been married 41 years and I do remember when we first started dating and I felt myself falling in love. I am sure that I talked about him non-stop! I wanted to spend as much time as possible with him. When I saw him enter a room, my heart would be faster!

8. In deadly peril, what three people would you want in a foxhole with you? Let's see . . .I would want Mark there because he would do his best to protect me. Maybe I want my boss there, because he could be praying (remember he is a senior minister) for all of us!! I think I would want my best friend to be with me, too. The problem is that if they are all with me . . .are we all going to die? Or are we going to make it out alive??

9. What is your greatest weakness? I just went to ChatGPT and typed in, "Can getting my feelings hurt easily be my greatest weakness?" Here is what my friend ChatGPT told me, "It can be a weakness — but it depends on how you frame it and what you do with it.

Getting your feelings hurt easily often comes from being sensitive, empathetic, or deeply invested in your relationships and responsibilities. Those are strengths. The “weakness” part usually shows up when:

  • it leads to taking things personally that weren’t meant that way

  • it makes feedback feel threatening rather than helpful

  • it causes you to withdraw or doubt yourself

  • it creates emotional fatigue when the stakes aren’t actually high

Then this came next - which I like:

✔️ Acknowledging the weakness honestly

“My tendency to take things to heart can make me sensitive to criticism or quick to feel discouraged.”

✔️ Showing self-awareness

“I’ve realized this comes from caring deeply about doing things well and wanting to maintain good relationships.”

✔️ Showing growth

“I’ve been working on pausing before reacting, asking clarifying questions, and focusing on the intent rather than the tone.”

✔️ Turning it into a balanced trait

“This sensitivity also helps me read a room well, notice when others are upset, and respond with empathy.

Maybe what I think of as my greatest weakness isn't . . .maybe my greatest weakness is my temper, which I am also always working on controlling!!

10. If you were to live out the rest of your life as your favorite fictional character, which would you choose? I have no idea. Seriously . . . no idea. Should I ask ChatGPT? ChatGPT would choose for "himself" to be Gandalf from Lord of the Rings. He gave some great reasons, but I've never watched or read Lord of the Rings. Maybe after I read everyone's answers on Sunday I can come up with my own answer. I just don't have any idea. . . .. . .alright, I think I have one! There is a series of fun books called the "Miss Fortune series" by Jana DeLeon. I love the leading character whose name is Fortune Redding. She is beautiful on the outside and she was a CIA agent who now lives in Sinful, Louisiana. She meets Ida Bell and Gertie and they become her two best friends. They just happen to be retirement age but they were spies during the Vietnam War. The three of them solve mysteries together and the books make me laugh out loud!

Thank you for playing! Please come back next week.

  1. you did a deep dive into weakness! I can get my feelings hurt more by people I care about rather than some random fool online, for instance.

  2. Remember that song from Sesame Street – "One of these things is not like the other. One of these things just doesn't belong?" That's how I felt when I saw "spirituality" on that list of things that give me pleasure. I don't know that my faith is supposed to give me pleasure. Guidance that leads to fulfillment, yes. But sometimes it can make me distinctly uncomfortable as I wrestle with issues I'm presented with. Oh well, these questions were meant to be spur thought and this week's certainly did!

    1. Good comment - I'm thinking on it some more. My faith gives me joy, but I'm not sure about pleasure!

  4. A big cat for me too. They are fab beasts.

Disco lessons? That's funny. My unique style is self-made - and chaotic.

Actually, asking ChatGPT for answers would be fun. I once asked it to write a blog post for me in the style of the Plastic Mancunian. And it was scarily accurate. You can read it here (if you're bored).

  5. I asked ChatGPT what my weakness was, and it gave me the answer I put down. But didn't go into specifics because I told it the question was to answer a meme question on my blog. And just because I'm curious, do you feel like the answers you get from ChatGPT are basically "male," as in male-oriented, or from a male perspective? Or do you see it as gender neutral or female in the response?

    1. I feel like most responses have been gender neutral. I don't feel like they are female. I'll start paying more attention and let you know! Interesting to think about!!

  7. I need to look up that book series! It sounds like characters I would like! I think when someone spreads rumors about another person, they are usually just jealous, and that is so very sad. I enjoyed your answers!! And I'm enjoying your posts about your trip!!
